A guide to participating in our running event

The Course

The Bourn to Run course is a multi-terrain route around the picturesque Cambridgeshire village of Bourn. The route will include stretches of roads and country lanes as well as footpaths, wildlife reserves, meadows and even fields of sheep! Bourn is nestled in rolling countryside and some moderate hills form part of the route. Please note this course can be muddy or rocky depending on weather conditions so be prepared for uneven ground.

The 10K race route is now available here, and will also be on display in the Sports Pavilion at the Jubilee Recreation Ground. Please note that part of the course takes competitors over privately owned land where the landowners have granted us permission to run for this event only. Please do not attempt to run on the privately owned areas before or after this event.

A water station will be positioned approximately halfway through the 10K course. There will be no water station on the 3K run. All runners will receive a bottle of water, a banana and a medal at the finish line.

Please run on the left hand side of the road unless otherwise directed by the course marshals.

Parts of the route will include crossing road junctions and we therefore strongly advise you NOT to wear mp3 players or headsets during the race, for the safety of yourself and others.

This is a multi-terrain event and all competitors enter it at their own risk. While medical assistance is provided for the duration of the event, no liability will be accepted by either Bourn Primary Academy, Bourn Sports Club, Bourn School Association or individual race organisers for any injury incurred by entering this race.

Part of the route includes public footpaths where owners may be walking their dogs. However, we ask you NOT to bring your dogs on this occasion, for the safety and comfort of all competitors.

Parking will be clearly marked, with marshals and car parking attendants to guide you. Please do not park on the roads in Bourn as they may form part of the course.

There is one parking area which will be manned by marshals. This will be located at Manor Farm, 14 Alms Hill, Bourn, CB23 2SH. Please try and enter the village of Bourn from the direction of the A428 and turn on to the Broadway (B1046), to minimise traffic in the centre of the village. As you come down the hill into the village of Bourn, the car park will be clearly marked on the left hand side. Please do not park on any roads in the village as these may form part of the race route. Cars will not be allowed to park at the Recreation Ground for the duration of the race as this is where the race Finish is located. The organisers are not liable for any damage to cars left in the car park so please ensure no valuables are left inside.

For the safety of all our competitors, no car will be allowed to leave the car park until 12:00pm (noon). The car park is adjacent to the 3K route and is only accessible via a single lane track. On leaving the car park there will be marshals to direct you.

The road entering the car park will close at 9:45am, so please ensure your vehicle is in the car park by that time.

Dropping Off

Please use the drop-off zone at Lalbagh restaurant car park on Alms Hill. This is positioned on the right hand side near the car park just off the Broadway (B1046) leading into the village. Please note this is a restaurant and cars will not be allowed to park here. The area will not be marked.

Once you are dropped off, please follow the signs to the registration tents at the Recreation Ground.

This is a charitable event staffed by volunteers and, whilst every effort will be made to record finish times, the committee take no responsibility for failure to record times accurately.

Please wear your race number on the front of your chest, outside all clothing layers to make it easier for your time to be noted.

All 10K and 3K times will be recorded by chip timing for anyone who has pre-registered. Failure to secure your chip in accordance with the instructions, or loss of your chip, will mean your time is not recorded. All times will be uploaded to the website as soon as possible after the event. All recorded times are final and indisputable.

Please watch our video on how to fit your chip to get an accurate race time!

If you have registered on the day and no chip timers are available, your 3K time will not be recorded. If an accurate race time is important to you, please bring your own watch to record your time.

Pictures and video footage will be used as a back-up to chip timing facilities and on the Bourn to Run website, advertising material and media write-ups. All competitors entering the event agree to their photograph being used for these purposes.
